Southern Accents Honors “Green” Showcase Home at The Cliffs at Mountain Park

(Greenville, SC: November 3, 2008) The environmentally sustainable model home at The Cliffs at Mountain Park has received recognition by Southern Accents magazine and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). The home was honored in the Green category of a national contest recognizing outstanding design. Johnston Design Group is the architect for the home; Postcard from Paris is the interior design firm; CT Properties is the builder.

“This recognition is reflective of many people’s expertise and hard work to create both a responsible house and a beautiful, livable home with top-of-the-line features and creature comforts,” explains Lucas Anthony, vice president of construction and development for The Cliffs Communities. “It serves as a great example to our current residents who want to renovate or add to their homes in a smart way and to prospective buyers of how to align their vision of a dream home with their consciousness about environmental stewardship.”

This illustration is evident in all aspects of the home, from materials to the situation of the home itself.

“This home is positioned to connect people with the natural beauty of the site, with every primary room having direct access to significant landscape features immediately outside of the home,” says Scott Johnston of Johnston Design Group. “The native stone, cedar, and heavy timber exterior materials are inspired by the natural materials of the site while historic pebble dash stucco further connects the home to the southern Blue Ridge culture.”

The interiors have the same reflection of sustainable design.

“The interior design style itself is refined and, to an extent, modern in an effort to maintain a strong sense of style along with a sense of balance with the environment,” adds Linda McDougald of Postcard from Paris. “The use of a neutral color palette, natural materials, and natural or rustic finishes in flooring, lighting, cabinetry, and door hardware merge green design seamlessly into the upper echelon of mountain living.”

The Green Showcase Home at The Cliffs at Mountain Park will be featured in the January / February 2009 issue of Southern Accents. It exemplifies The Cliffs Communities’ long-standing leadership in responsible development, highlighting the ability to design and build homes in an environmentally conscious manner while preserving comfort, style, and quality. The Cliffs Communities, Johnston Design Group, and Postcard from Paris also worked together with Furman University and Southern Living to create The Cliffs Cottage, Southern Living’s first-ever Green Showcase Home currently open to the public on Furman’s campus through June 2009.
